Kwetu Kuwait ("Kwetu", "we", "us") is a community housing listings board for the African diaspora in Kuwait. Kwetu is owned and operated solely by Kelvin Ndegwa Wairimu, an individual, who is personally responsible for the platform and this policy.
Kwetu is built to collect as little as possible. We do not use accounts, passwords, or logins. When you use Kwetu, we may collect:
We do not collect names, email addresses, or payment information. Kwetu never processes payments — all arrangements happen directly between users over WhatsApp, outside our platform.
We only use the data above to:
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties beyond the infrastructure providers who host the site (GitHub Pages, Supabase).
Listings automatically stop being publicly visible 30 days after posting. At that same 30-day mark, your WhatsApp number is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our database — it is not retained in any form afterward. The remaining listing details (area, description, etc.) are kept for up to 7 more days for moderation/audit purposes, then the entire listing is permanently deleted. We don't run indefinite archives of expired listings.
Before publishing or saving a listing, you're asked to explicitly confirm, via one unchecked checkbox on the review step, that you have the right to advertise the accommodation, consent to your WhatsApp number being displayed publicly, and agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. Nothing is written to our database until you tick it — this is what "consent" means in practice on a platform with no accounts and no sign-up flow to bundle it into.
Under Kuwait's Electronic Transactions Law, and as a matter of how we've built Kwetu regardless, you have the right to:
Because Kwetu has no accounts, "your data" is tied to the device and browser you posted from, via a private token stored only in your browser. If you clear your browser storage or switch devices, we have no way to identify which listings were yours, and cannot process a deletion request without independent proof that you posted the listing (for example, matching contact details).
Kwetu is hosted using GitHub Pages (frontend) and Supabase (database), both of which may store and process data on servers located outside Kuwait (Supabase's infrastructure runs on cloud regions abroad; GitHub Pages serves the site globally via a content delivery network). By using Kwetu, you understand your listing data may be processed on servers outside Kuwait as a normal part of how these hosting services work.
Regardless of where processing physically happens, we apply the same safeguards to your data: encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) between your device and our servers, database-level access controls that block direct/open access to listing data (see Security below), and the same 30-day WhatsApp-number deletion and 7-day full-deletion schedule described in Section 4. Using an overseas processor does not reduce the protections your data receives.
We use industry-standard practices including database-level access controls (Row Level Security) so that write access to listings only happens through controlled, validated pathways — not open database access. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (AES-256) by our database provider, Supabase, which is SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certified. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of data transmitted to Kwetu.
Kuwait's Electronic Transactions Law (Law No. 20 of 2014) does not set out GDPR-style individual data rights, but it does expect reasonable safeguards around electronic records — the measures above (encryption, access controls, and the deletion schedule in Section 4) are how we meet that in practice, regardless of where the underlying infrastructure is physically located.
Kwetu is not directed at, and should not be used by, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
We'll update the "last updated" date above when this policy changes, and will note material changes prominently on the site.
